I really wanted to like this camera and lens combination. The lenses are the AFS 18-55mm G VR DX AF-S Zoom Lens and AFS 55-300mm VR Lens. This cameral has a large sensor (same as the D7000) which improves light gathering and provides the potential for exceptional detail. Further it has a huge number of settings making it very versatile. One of the banes of digital cameras has been their lack of dynamic range--the ability to show detail in both shadow and light without blowing out the highlights. The second bane has been noise (speckles) that appear in low light situations. I had been waiting for a camera that tackled both of these issues successfully. And the D5100 did that ...
